Ronald McDonald House Cooking Event

On Monday, March 14, 2016, Medefind Retail had the privilege of cooking dinner for approximately 25 families who were staying at the Ronald McDonald House located next to Tampa General Hospital. With the help of RMH commercial grade kitchen, the members of Medefind Retail stuffed chicken, steamed broccoli, prepared enchiladas and baked pies all from their own home recipes!

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay provides a temporary home for pediatric families of hospitalized children from all over the world.  What began as one family’s misfortune became good fortune for millions of families worldwide. In 1974, Kim Hill, the 3-year old daughter of Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill, was diagnosed with Leukemia. During Kim’s three years of treatment, Fred and his wife Fran often camped out on hospital chairs or benches and ate makeshift meals out of vending machines. The Hills watched other parents around them doing the same thing. They learned that many of the families traveled great distances to bring their children to the hospital, but couldn’t afford hotel rooms. That’s when RMH was born. The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974.

It was very rewarding to make sure these 25 families had a safe haven with a nice hearty meal so they could focus on their child’s recovery.  RMH ensures these families are offered these amenities free of charge on a daily basis and we are proud to have become a part of their mission.  If you would like to donate, you can visit https://donate.rmhc.org/donate

Metropolitan Ministries Volunteer Day – 2016

On Friday, March 11, 2016, Medefind Retail and Marcus & Millichap took time to volunteer at Metropolitan Ministries, helping in the Thrift Store and Food Bank.

The Metropolitan Ministries Thrift Store is a social enterprise of Metropolitan Ministries. The store proudly serves the Tampa Bay community in many ways. They provide much needed clothing, furniture, appliances and many other items to homeless and low-income families. They also sell many items to the community at affordable prices with proceeds supporting the ongoing mission of the Ministries.

Gas or groceries? What would you do if you had to choose? It’s not an easy choice. 1 out of every 5 people living in Florida has to make a choice like this every day. The circumstances differ, but the end result is the same for families struggling to make it to their next paycheck or for seniors living on a fixed income. Nutritious food is hard to come by when your budget is limited.  Poor nutrition and hunger make it difficult for children to concentrate in school, while also making them more prone to sickness.  Metropolitan Ministries receives more requests for food than any other service.  The organization remains dedicated to serving food to anyone that is hungry.  It was such an honor stocking the shelves and helping people pick out their groceries; Seeing them leave with a smile on their face was priceless.  If you would like to donate, you can visit http://www.metromin.org

Metropolitan Ministries – 2015

On Friday, November 20, 2015, Marcus & Millichap and Medefind Retail made their way to Metropolitan Ministries to volunteer time and labor back to the community. From stocking food inventory and doing dishes to cleaning storerooms and preparing meals, we helped Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa Bay prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Metropolitan Ministries serves 69,000 meals each month in Tampa Bay and at partner sites around Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, and Pinellas counties. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, Metropolitan Ministries serves 23,000 families in need with holiday meals! We’re happy to give back to our community and help the efforts that Metropolitan Ministries put forth on a regular basis. Thousands of hungry children are going to miss out on Thanksgiving unless someone stands up to hunger in our community this holiday season. For just $1.76, Metropolitan Ministries can offer a hungry child a traditional holiday meal. If you would like to donate, you can visit http://www.metromin.org.

Big Brother Big Sister Charity Bowling Event with Lavonte David

Medefind Retail had the pleasure of sponsoring Lavonte David’s Charity Bowling Event benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay. Medefind Retail was a Platinum Level sponsor for the event that took place at Splitsville in Channelside on November 16, 2015.

We joined Lavonte David and his teammates of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in supporting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay with an evening of bowling, billiard tables, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, food, and refreshments. The event assisted in raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, which helps provide mentees with the necessary resources to reach their full potential for success through their own perseverance.
